WHAT TO INCLUDE

A dancer invoice that gets paid.

Every UK invoice needs a unique number, your name and address, the client’s name and address, the date, a description of the work, the amount and how to pay. Then for dancers:

  1. 01

    Rehearsals are paid days

List rehearsal days separately from show or shoot days so they are not bundled away.

  2. 02

    Costumes and shoes

If you supplied costumes, shoes or make-up as agreed, add them as their own line.

  3. 03

    Teaching? Invoice monthly

Regular classes are easiest as one monthly invoice listing each date.

  4. 04

    Keep receipts for tax

Classes, costumes and travel are often allowable expenses. Keep the receipts.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Know the details.
Then get going.

Practical answers about invoicing as a dancer.

Dancer tax guide UK
Do dancers need to charge VAT?

Only if VAT-registered, which is required once taxable turnover passes £90,000 in a rolling 12 months. Most freelance dancers are well below it.

What if I am paid through payroll?

If a production pays you through PAYE, you do not invoice them. Invoices are for self-employed work.

How do I save this dancer invoice as a PDF?

Fill in the form, then choose Save as PDF. Your browser’s print window opens with only the invoice on the page; pick “Save as PDF” as the destination. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Is there a faster way to do this every time?

Yes. StagePay remembers your details, your clients and your usual lines, so a dancer invoice takes about twenty seconds on your phone, and it tracks which invoices have been paid. It is free to start.
