WHAT TO INCLUDE

A musician invoice that gets paid.

Every UK invoice needs a unique number, your name and address, the client’s name and address, the date, a description of the work, the amount and how to pay. Then for musicians and bands:

  1. 01

    Show the deposit

Take the deposit off as its own negative line so the balance due is obvious.

  2. 02

    Describe the sets

Number of sets, length and line-up help a booker match the invoice to the contract.

  3. 03

    Door split?

If you were paid a share of the door, state the percentage and the ticket total it was based on.

  4. 04

    One invoice per booking

Even on a run of dates, one invoice per show is easiest to track and chase.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Know the details.
Then get going.

Practical answers about invoicing as a musician.

How musicians should invoice venues and promoters
Who should the band invoice come from?

Whoever receives the money: the bandleader as a sole trader, or the band’s partnership or company if you have one. Members are then paid from that.

Can I invoice a wedding before the day?

Yes. Many wedding bands invoice the balance a few weeks before the event, with payment due by the date.

How do I save this musician invoice as a PDF?

Fill in the form, then choose Save as PDF. Your browser’s print window opens with only the invoice on the page; pick “Save as PDF” as the destination. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Is there a faster way to do this every time?

Yes. StagePay remembers your details, your clients and your usual lines, so a musician invoice takes about twenty seconds on your phone, and it tracks which invoices have been paid. It is free to start.
